.............referred to as Lionesses, when the mens' team are never referred to as the Lions? I know the Lions are the touring rugby team, but Lionesses? For gawds sake!

They've been known as that for the past ten year and it was used as a hashtag to differentiate between them and the men's team, who were #ThreeLions, as they were both in major competitions at the time.

Given that the emblem on the England men's football shirts is depicted by 3 Lions. Presumably there would be objections if the insignia on the Ladies shirts was 3 Irons?
