//WIMBLEDON is risking a racket — by letting crowds bring in Tory, Labour, and even Palestinian flags.

Rosettes can be worn too, though political campaigning at the tennis tournament is banned.//

Opening just before the election, and with wars in Gaza and Ukraine on-going, for the sake of a peaceful tournament should Wimbledon ban all political symbols?

Isn't waving a political flag, campaigning ?

I think folk should give it a miss this year in protest at foreign conflict flag waving.  There's no place for either it, or for national politics advertising, at such events.

Yes, it should.

Allowing partisan support in a large crowd is a recipe for trouble.

I think they might regret it.  I hope they will regret it.  Yes they should ban all political symbols.

I can see it all kicking off. I assume if they are letting the terrorist supporters bring their "flag" presumably the Israeli flag will also be allowed.

Then they'll need a safe word, like "Panama" ?

Just wait until the palestinian supporters pitch up camp on the centre court, maybe they will think twice next time before getting involved with political issues.

Yes, they should ban them.  They'll regret it imo - it's tennis, plain & simple & nothing else needs to impinge on that.

Again, it's tennis, which means I shan't be watching anyway.

will they allow the straight flag the Russian flag or even the swazstika ?

It'll be vuvzelas next, the world's going to hell in a handcart and these blazered knobs are enabling the unwashed, dreadlocked dossers in the fight for attention.

Could also turn out to be an error in reporting, it is The Sun after all.

probably what the Sun did was look at the following and declare anything not on it as "acceptable".

I do think mushroom may have hit the nail on the head with his comment at 13;21. The link mentions causing a disturbance and if anyone is waving a large flag, whatever it may be, surely they are causing a disturbance to those seated behind them.

Simple answer 'Yes'.  I can't see elite athletes whose minds and eyes have to be concentrated on a very fast-moving ball being very happy about waving flags in the background. There are often appeals for silence as it is.

Seriously, a waving flag could be a match-losing distraction.
