If so, how the heck do I open the Card Reader to get a new battery in please? I don't even know what battery to get before I get it open. What a pain it is. Bless you anyone who can help.
"Battery low or no power
This means you need to replace the batteries to continue using the card reader.
To replace the batteries in your card reader:
Get 2 CR2032 batteries.
Find the back of the card reader.
Push the tip of a pen into the small, rectangular hole near the bottom.
Pull out the battery drawer.
Remove the old batteries.
Add the new batteries in the + and - positions.
Push the drawer back into the card reader.
If you don’t have the right batteries, you can order a new card reader." (emphasis added)
If yours is as old as mine was you can take it to any branch and they'll swap it for a new one. New ones have the slide-out drawer as described by TCL, old ones have the back held on by screws so you can't easily relplace the batteries. Again, the old ones only worked with one card, so my wife and I had one each for the same account; the new ones operate slightly differently and you only need one machine for all cards.
May be a bit late now, but you can order a new card reader online and have it posted out

I'm not surprised, over the last few years they closed my nearest (walking distance), then the next nearest (bus journey) so now I have to use what was the third nearest (bus and train journey). I can see that one day they'll have branches in London, Birmingham and Edinburgh and that's your lot.
