Why is the Calcutta Cup so named ?

Have found that Calcutta Rugby Club folded... their cup melted into silver rupees...then melted into Calcutta Cup...

Not sure if this answer actually fits the clue and the brain is getting a bit muddled. Can anyone else give me a better/different answer.Thanks. xx
