Horizontal stripes on wall and making stencils

What is the easiest way of painting horizontal stripes onto a wall? I find that masking tape seems to pull off fresh paint even when it is completely dry.
Also how easy is it to make your own stencils? My son wants a Leicester Tigers theme in his bedroom and I'm trying to work out how to the tiger's logo on the wall. Thanks.

Hi lizwizz, can't advise on stencils, apart from hiring an Over head projector and copying reflected image onto wall,it's quite easy, re: masking tape, ask for a Low Tack masking tape that is very easy to take off and shouldn't mark the wall, good luck. Ray

I'm not sure about horizontal lines on walls but stencils are easy. You can buy special oiled card from good art shops but you can just as easily use one of those transparent plastic filing wallets. Find a picture, photocopy it and slip it into the wallet. Using a very sharp craft knife, lean on a cutting board, and cut around the picture remembering that if you are cutting holes out of an intricate pattern they must somehow still connect to the outside of your stencil. Use fairly thick paint but use it sparingly, and each time you want to use the stencil secure it to the wall with masking tape before stippling (dabbing the paint) over the stencil. You don't have to buy special brushes you can use a small sponge to apply the paint. Hope this helps!
