When I was 11 and big sis was 12 we entered our horse-crazy phase and pestered my parents all year long for riding lessons. They rolled their eyes and pretended not to hear. Then, Christmas morning, the very last pressies sis and I unwrapped (at the same time, by our parents' order) were two sets of riding boots, helmet, crop and breeches! We were in heaven.
Of course, we had to wait a few weeks to start lessons, so in the interim we made fake monocles and dressed up as Eric von Stroheim, ruthlessly wielding our crops and frightening the siblings.

insurance......I really hope you get your wish, hope your hubby recovers.
Best Xmas pressie was from a friend last year - tickets to see REM. Hubby and I have been fans for years but our budget doesn't run to luxuries like concert tickets. A really thoughtful, generous gift from a true friend who we will treasure for ever! Fab, memorable concert too.
