Passage from India
2 Answers
I am trying to trace my grand mothers history. I know her father was a serving soldier in India in the 19th century and she was born in Bombay barracks during this period. Her mother died in India, so while my Grandmother was still a young girl her Father decided that they both come back to England, but unfortunatly her Father took ill on the voyage back home and died on board the ship.
Is there anyway I can find details of her birth in India, and passenger lists of ships leaving India at that time?

The author did amazing research and there is a lot of details of various archives.
It might be worth a look just for the acknowledgements etc to give you an idea of where to start your search.

Try the IGI (Church of the latter day Saints) I have found some relatives of ours who were born in India in the 1870's on there who have a remarkably similar story to yours actually. There are websites which I can track down for you tomorrow with listings of burials of European people in them, you might find you're great grandmother there.Army should be able to help with his service record too.
