Parking at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff

My friends and I are going to the Millennium stadium in September and as we live in Christchurch on the south coast we are going to have to take a car. We are thinking of staying in a travel lodge about an hour away (Chippenham) as they are doing an offer of 15 per night.

So what would be the best way to get to the stadium? Should I drive all the way to Cardiff? Is the parking ok? Or should I go to a nearby train station and travel the remainder by train? If so which station should I travel to? The rugby match is in the evening so the game probably won't finish until around 10 pm so would the trains still be running and how far away is the stadium from the nearest train station? Lots of questions I know. But would really appreciate any advice.

Thank you.

The railway station in Cardiff is about 3 minutes walk from the Millennium Stadium. Be warned, on previous occasions there are no suitable trains available after Rugby games. There should be no problems driving to Cardiff, usually plenty of parking available.

Thanks for the advice. It was over a year ago I asked the question and we have been and returned safely. We actually parked about 200 yards from the entrance to the stadium. Which was brilliant. Although one thing we didn't think of was the traffic leaving the staduim. It took about two hours to get out of the city. Anyway it is nice to see that the questions don't disappear into the either.
