The Working Class and Gold (Esp. Darts players)
8 Answers
I am aware that (almost ironically) that the poorer classes wear more gold than the better ones but what is it with darts players and cheap gold??
I know Bobby George is a joke (I quite like him though) but there is a very high percentage of darts players who have a customary gold watch, braclet, two or three necklaces, sovereign rings and the lovely onyxs Elizabeth Duke rings.
Is there an on going joke I have missed in the darts fraternity or do ALL working class people made good wear cheap tat?
I know Beckham is a poor man made good, and financially is in a complete different league to even the worlds best dart player, Eric Bristow, but even he wears a lot of tat. Fair enough the tat probably costs the combines GDP of Tonga, but tat nonetheless.
Why?

My personal opinion is that it is about what it looks like.
Rich people don't have to tell you they're rich, people who tell you they are rich, or how much everything cost that they are wearing - or wear lots of tacky gold - are generally not rich.
Much like hard men. If a man tells you he's hard (!) he's lying, if a man is hard you will know about it.

bobby george has made a sackful from darts not really to do with his darting ability he was a good rather than a great player but he was hugely charismatic and got a lot of lucrative exhibition offers, he lives in a mansion of a house that has a pub inside it :) his book is actually one of the best autobiographies i have ever read
Not quite sure where you've got that Bobby George wears too much bling from..........

I have met Bobby George and played darts against him in a charity match. Several years ago now though .He slaughtered me with about five darts at 301 .He's a very nice person and if he wants to bling it then that's his affair .It's all part of his image .He does a lot of admirable work for various charities and that's why people turn up and take part .He was a nice man and made our charity night a huge success .
