Have you noticed the recent winner in the MOS Crossword??? This person is from Portugal!!!!!!! This seems kind of strange. They must have EXPRESS delivery from there to get all the way to the Thetford address here in Britain!!! It's a bit much having people from abroad winning the crossword.I know that seems harsh I know, but crikey, it seems impossible to win this prize if people are entering from abroad as well.I've been sending in my entries every week for some time now,and I have yet to win anything!I buy a couple or more of MOS's to increase my chance of winning. But,now I think I will just buy the one.You might just have a very slim chance of winning with just the one entry. I bet the next winner will be somewhere in Australia next. Gordon Bennett! I don't know,I think I may as well move to Turkey. You've probably got more chances of winning there!!!!!!!
Don't begrudge the poor Portuguese winner. I live in Portugal (No it wasn't me) and I do the Telegraph and send it in. I reckon most times my entry doesn't reach the Telegraph in time, but I have actually won on one occasion sending from here. Express delivery doesn't work - I sent something to a friend a week ago express delivery. It cost me the earth and it still hasn't arrived. The ordinary post can be as quick as two days or as long as ten. The thing is I'm English and certainly not up to doing the Portuguese crosswords. I had to join the Telegraph Crossword Society in order to keep my hand in.
If you check the winners of The Times crosswords you'll find that there are many overseas winners, and not just from Europe, but all over the world. I often wonder if it simply a way of showing off their world-wide readership
These days, there's hardly any chance of winning any prize draw when the answers are posted in the answerbank! At least the Portuguese winner didn't ask for every answer in AB else we'd have noticed. Good Luck to them I say.
The post to Austria from the UK arrives in one and a half days delivered to a small village, up a mountain that's covered with snow.!!!!
I've noticed that the winners seem to rotate between England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. So, is it a proper draw or a multicultural project? Seeing Sunday's winner was from Portugal makes me want to emigrate too! Percentage-wise, there are clearly less Brits living in Portugal than in the aforementioned 4 countries of the British Isles, so the odds of winning have to be better!. What about moving to a remote part of Africa? Eventually, one could be the winner!!!???
Thanks for your comments Paulineward, and I don't begrudge the Portuguese winner Christiana.I must really congratulate the winner!!!
Good point Tallulah,we would definitely have noticed the winner asking for some of the answers in AB! heh,heh
Although,I must agree with pjgriffo,in a slight humorous way!
Finally, you could possibly be a winner in Africa as well bluebirds!
Ooh,almost forgot I've just completed the Monday's Express Crusader Crossword and the Big General Knowledge 1000 crossword. So,hopefully I might be able to win on one of these.Unless,of course, somebody from abroad may win.Wouldn't that be a strange coincidence!!
when I lived in Dubai, my friend won the Sunday Mirror 100 crossword, but the closing date was 2 weeks away.
If you live in Portugal and have a pal coming over to UK they can post for you in good time.
Whoever you are in Portugal congratulations.
