...but are they good for anything else (other than the obvious)?!! I sat in a jacuzzi all alone yesterday - the most wonderful experience & very relaxing after my 2 horrendous scary car journeys this week. Bubble Heaven. It got me to wondering whether the pressure & massage effect from those jets of water actually help break down cellulite or even help with calorie loss? I would like opinions - cos if so, I shall scrap the boring gym bit & just sit in the jacuzzi for an hour a day...

I stopped using the jacuzzi when I developed a horrible 'ulcerated' rash on my upper chest and thighs, and realised it was aggravating my asthma.

The first few inches above the water are ideal breeding grounds for harmful bacteria - hot and humid air. To kill the bacteria from the skin and sweat of all that use it, a high number of chemicals have to be added to the water.

A jacuzzi will do absolutely nothing for cellulite or calorie loss. I will guarantee that 100%.

You may think you were all alone yesterday, but I bet the water and air were teeming with bacteria and chemicals.

Eurgh... that has burst my bubble Ethel. I thought it might contribute to the breaking down of those dimples of cellulite. I will still carry on going - for the feelgood factor. Although it won't feel so good now; I'll be thinking of all those germs and spores and foreign substances (am I allowed to say that?!)
you'll be fine. wear a surgical mask, and shower straight after!
Or a WW2 gas mask....such a good look.

That could be fun Naomi - sitting in the jacuzzi wearing a WW2 gas mask! It would deter anyone else from getting in, and I do like to cause a titter these cold dark grey winter days. Maybe I could sing Vera Lynn songs (if they could hear them through the mask) - I could even make the local newspaper - my mother would be so proud.
you could avoid these risks by wearing an aqualung, and a wet suit. :-)
Thats so strange because the gym i (don't) go to has a lovely jacuzzi and I hate going in if there is a man sitting in it !!! Have to wait for him to get out .
WW 2 gas mask ? you'd be amazed what that will do for some people.
EEww ! that's not a nice mental image.
Until I became too ill to go last year I was a member of a very nice gym with pool and spa. It was fantastic and I used to love the jacuzzi, before I got the rash which took literally weeks and antibiotics to clear up.

But now I think about it, I think the whole thing is very odd, sharing a smallish hot bath with a bunch of strangers and their sweat and other body substances. It must have a deep cleaning affect on some mucky people, don't you think? The sign stated 'shower before use' but many people didn't, or just stood under the shower for a second or two.

My club is considered 'exclusive' just because of the high fees but I still saw some sights that I wish I never did see.
well that's put me off!
Will just run under the sprinkler in the garden - more fun, private and no germs!!
shove over make way for a liddle un.

Ethel, with respect, shut up - you're spoiling the whole experience for me now!

I do think that when sharing with male(s), not all the bubbles are from the jets - they often sit there with a self-satisfied grin on their face. But then, again, positioned correctly, so do I - and that's nothing to do with pharting!
