I suppose it`s like the World champion F1 racing driver. They say he`s the best in the World, they should re-phrase it as "The best driver amongst a few of middle class privileged racing drivers who can afford to go up through the ranks of Formula racing and enter the various races"
I know it would be a lot to engrave on the trophy but it`s more accurate.
the game is played in several other countries, the US is by far the highest standard and hence the winner of their cup final is the best team in the world that is not disputed or debatable as in the case of F1. Until the standard improves in other countries it is pointless having a world cup as they do in Soccer/rugby etc.
You can only be world champions if you play the other teams that play the sport in the rest of the world.
As has been seen in both Baseball and Basketball the US who without doubt are stronger than anyone else in the world, still lost to, perceived, much weaker teams.
To call the superbowl champions, world champions is just arrogance.
The gulf in american football is far wider than in Basketball. The best team outside the US would not stand a chance against most college sides let alone an NFL team. It'd be like me playing Federer at Tennis, pointless. It's not arrogance it's realism.
....and we lost 1-0 to the USA in that.
A circle nicely squared :-)
I'm not sure whether there is still a European American football league but the only other one is in Canada.
The Superbowl winners really are World Champions because no one else could beat them.
It's a bit like we are cheese rolling champs :-)
