WAS THE PROTESTS AGAINST AMY WILLIAMS HELMET BLATANT GAMESMANSHIP?
Not only did Amy have to endure a protest against the legality of her helmet after the 1st 2 runs in the Womens Skeleton but there was a protest afterwards by the Canadians (i think) when she has completed her winning run, the reasoning being that her winning margin belied her previous competition performances/ standings, so something must be untoward rather than the fact Amy had pulled out 3 superb runs out of 4. It smacks of gamesmanship on the one hand after the 1st 2 runs to unsettle her and Sour grapes on the other hand in that the Canadian competitor who was considered a strong favourite for the Gold medal could only finish 4th and out of the medals.

Gamesmanship ?
From the Canadians ?
The same Canadians who gave Team GB 30 practice runs on the slide, and allocated themselves 300 (!) practice runs ?
The same Canadians who specifically designed a slide to be the fastest in the World, refused to allow visiting competitors to get familiar with it, leading to a Georgian competitor being killed ?
Those Canadians ?

Very good points JJ, bit rich to protest against us. Canadians were obviously trying to get thier girl moved up to the Bronze, she was retiring after this awwwwww!
Name of the killed luge rider was Nodar Kumaritashvili, died in practice run last Friday when his luge went over the edge of track and he hit a metal support, was killed almost immediately, ironically he had finished his run and was yards from the end.

The Georgian, Kumaritashvili, was killed on one of his very small allocated Luge practice runs, ummmm,
Basically, the Canadians had not built the bank high enough for the speed of the track. The Canadians were very familiar with the track, having done 300 runs each. The poor Georgian guy was not. He went off the top of the bank, and hit a metal pillar at about 90mph.
Didn't stand a chance.

Hi Barney, Yes, gamesmanship is the nice word for it, instituting nasty mind games to unsettle your opponents is what they are about-it 's a form of un-sportsman like cheating really. They knew that Amy's helmet had been checked and verified as ok by the official inspectors at the games-and that having ok'd her helmet, they were never going to reverse that decision, their only objective was to unsettle Amy- and they failed!! miserably!! I think there were actually five teams that were supposed to have complained- the Americans been foremost among them- shame on all of them, and well done Amy and the team with her.
