My Nokia 5300, again

My Nokia 5300 touch screen, keeps freezing up and locking me out, I turn it on and off and sometimes a flood of meesages come flying in.
It wouldn't let me use e-mail due to lack of memory, the same thing with texts, and then yesterday it told me that I can resum e-mails as enough disc space has been freed up, I hadn't touched it, it's freezing me out again now, grrr!
Can I fix it myself or does it need to go back?
I've taken the sim out and returned it to no avail
