He was already half cut, but gave me some money to get him a pint of Guinness and a packet of fags.
I took them to his room, and he asked me to wake him in the morning, by coming ino his room and shaking him. He said a phone call wouldn't do it.

It's funny how we forgive people like Higgins anything if the come into the category of flawed genius. We did the same with George Best, John McEnroe, etc. It didn't matter how badly they behaved so long as they were entertaining. More often than not, Higgins behaved like a complete moron, giving unjustified abuse to opponents and officials whenever his game let him down. He was particularly insulting towards Steve Davis, who never responded in kind, but was always complimentary about Higgins. Davis behaved like a complete gentleman, but it's Higgins that everyone loves. Sure, he had great talent and made the game worth watching, but he was still a Salads Chef.
Nice one. My favourite snooker one-liner came fom Denis Taylor. He was playing Peter Francisco (long time ago), and the latter was stretching over the corner of the table to play a shot that really needed the rest. His foot slipped and he came crashing down onto the corner pocket, crown jewels first. When his eyes stopped watering, Taylor called out "and two for the cannon".
