50p coin - offside rule explained

I can't find a bigger picture of it, but the bottom left coin has a diagram explaining the offside rule.

What's the point? it's not very clear and my friend didn't understand it before and still doesn't . . . .

I tried to, but she jsut got even more confused with the picture (which on the other computer we could find a bigger version of, but now I can't)

I don't think its meant to actually be useful for explaining....I think its supposed to be symbolic

Why don't you visit a football website and it will explain it a lot better than the back of a 50p?

Couldn't they have found a better picture to represent football, than the part of it hardly anyone understands.

It's meant as a coin or a collectible rather than an explanation of the rules.

It's more artwork than an actual means to explain the rules. there are plenty of explanations online you culd look up for your friend.

Try explaining the rules of cricket to your friend, whereby the man who's in stays in till he's out. When he is out he has to go in and another man, who was in before, comes out to go in and stays there till he's out as well, after which he has to go in &c...

Plus SB, the coin is titled, 'offside rule explained' but it doesn't do what it says IMO.

mike was making a comparison between the offside rule being straightforward compared to cricket.

I totally understand the offside rule but cant understand why they would use that to symbolise Football..........unless its to provoke discussion and highlight the launch of the 50p piece.Hmm -if so success !!!
