I've just placed a few bets for todays races. If all 3 come in I'll only win about £33 but it's better then nothing. Wish me luck!

Anyone else having a dabble?

Well, I've gone for Rock on Ruby, Secret Dancer and Hey Big Spender. I just liked the names. :o)
I met John Francome at work once. My colleague was a betting man and told me to go and get a tip for a race that afternoon. I didn`t really want to approach him but I did and he gave me the tip. I thought that as the tip had come from John Francome I might put a bet on myself. I snuck into the betting shop which was a testosterone, fag smoke filled den and told the man the bet was for someone else. The horse came in last.

I think betting shops have changed since then, SJ.

The one I go to is just like a shop, really.

Well, not exactly like a shop, obviously. You can't back a horse in Waitrose.

But you know what I mean.
thank heavens for on-line betting

Although I was in a betting shop with a work colleague many moons ago and an elderly chap came across and suggested we back a horse in a race that day we did and it came in at 20-1 never saw him again....pity we owed him a drink for that one
pixi- I know what you mean. I would never go into a betting shop at all. My son is in the offices and is quite high up pay wise and its probably all us fools who are losing money that are paying his wages. Good luck to those who win today :>)
We need to think of gambling as entertainment ... NOT as a way of making money.

If you have £10, you can (say) go to the cinema, or bet on five horses.

Either way, at the end of the day, the money is gone ... but you've had some fun.

If, by some remote chance, one of your horses wins ... then that's just a bonus.

If you want to actually MAKE money gambling ... then play Blackjack.
My godson in Australia is a professional gambler, and makes a very nice living..........
OMG ... your godson is Tony Hachem, crafty ???

Well I won but I'm confused about how much. If they change the odds between the time your place your bet and the race does that mean you don't win what the odds were when you put your bet on?
