Is there anyway I can lock my computer from 2am til 8am without unplugging or turning off. the reason is my daughter is on it almost all night then won't get up in the morning. So she would only plug it back in or turn it on. She is an adult but I think it's getting ridiculous, she is chatting to her friends all night!

Press CTRL + ALT + Delete and select lock (or just press enter straight after pressing those 3 keys together)
Oh, thinking about it that will only work if you have a password on your computer.

so before I do that, do I reverse it to open it? Don't want to try it and then sit here without a computer!

Question Author
No we just open it up.
If it is NOT a laptop, try taking the keyboard & mouse to bed with you.
Take the mouse to bed with you...............

That's a good idea but I go to bed very early (about 9) to watch tv, and probably wouldn' wake in time.

I don't mind her chatting til about 2am cos that's the way it is over here, but nearly all night is getting silly!!!
Why not add a login password?
Realistically you are going to have to set a password if you want to lock it.

So if you set a password for your account in control panel > users and then you can lock it as above and just do another CTRL + ALT + Delete and enter the password to unlock it.

if you don't set a password even if you find/use a third party program to lock the computer all she'll have to do is switch it off and on again.
I don't see how you can do it if it's something you want to activate after you've gone to kip.

I was hoping that technology would provide my computer with an timer so I could time it to close at 2am and come on again at 8am, well why not, washing machines can do it!
There are various net nanny type things that will do that but I've never used any off them so have no idea of any to recommend.
I know how you can do it ..
Assuming you have a router ..put a socket timer on the power socket for that (cable through the wall maybe) It will shut router power off at 2am and no internet connection available after that .. but PC operational and unharmed by any power interruption. That will stop it.
is there no parental control on your pc if there is you can set it to the times you want it on and off to
