Ive had a real job with this family tree Im doing for a friend. They seem to be right ones.

Wondered if you could look up William Edward Cage 1857-1925 from Suffolk. He has 3 criminal records 1878, 1880, 1890 which I find hard to read fully even on full zoom. Perhaps with your know how of the jargon of these things you can decipher them for me.
Also, he appears to have changed his name on the 1911 census he became Frederick william Cage. will there be any records for name changing ?
Cannot find his 2nd marriage to a Margaret Miles who had 2 children, who are on the 1911 census which states he is widowed, and re married for a 3trd time in 1913 to Eliza king.
Both these children ran away to Yorkshire at the age of 9 and 11 which is where their family is now that Im researching.
Its no wonder Ive been confused for weeks and had to send for a birth and marriage cert to try to make some sense of it all.

Thanks in advance

The three criminal records:
29 Jul 1878 - offence was housebreaking & larceny (theft of property) [can't make out the next word] - sentence 12 Calendar months imprisonment

28 Jul 1880 Looks like 'attempt to commit B - 7' - but see next one - Sentence 5 years imprisonment

3 Jan 1890 offence was 'attempt to commit bestiality' - sentence 2 years hard labour.

Ooo-er...

Must go and get tea now but will have another look at Mr Cage's history later, unless someone else has in the meantime.

thanks rose maybud. very difficult to read isnt it?
Are you sure they are not 2 different people, Frederick William Cage was born in 1861 in Bosmere, Suffolk Q4 4a 485.
It's attempt to commit Robbery in 1880
the one in 1890 does look like Bestiality, except ther ia not dot above what might be an i,
This IS a tricky one.

William Edward Cage married Mary Ann Brunning (1868) in 1886 in Bosmere RD, but neither he nor she pops up in 1891. No death, no nothing. Can't find an emigration record for them.

Frederick William Cage (1861) is another puzzler - can't find him in 1871, so haven't found out who his parents were. I would guess a cousin. William's father, Richard Cage (1831), had two brothers (I think) and of course there is always a chance he was the illegitimate son of one of Richard's sisters. It seems to be Frederick William who married Eliza King in 1913. As you say, he is described as a widower in 1911 with Frederick C and Walter Sidney, but can't spot an earlier marriage. Can't find a Margaret Miles marriage.

So nil points for me on this one. Sorry.
William Edward would seem to be the son of Richard Cage, Frederick William was the son of Elijah Cage.
Are you listed on censuses if you are in prison as that's where William would have been in 1881 and 1891?
yes craft as 'inmates' usually, probably Ipswich?

I see you are all still working on this for me. I havnt had chance to look at it again properly but will do so on Monday morning before coming to work.
Im now in touch with another Ancestry member doing this tree and she says a Margaret Miles married a Wm Busby in 1896 and that possibly Wm Cage could have changed his name to that before becoming Frederick Wm Cage. It could make sense but its so confusing. I would have thought that inmates should be on the census too.
Thanks everyone
