When I click on a hyperlink in Word or Excel, I get the message "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." This has been asked before with the response "Check your normal browser is set to be the default browser." I use IE8 and have checked that this is the default, no other browser has been installed on my laptop. Can anybody help, please.

Restart your computer.

Thanks Chris for your promopt response. I tried downloading the file you suggested but my AV said "publisher could not be verified" so I'm reluctant to use it. I'll take another look at the problem tomorrow.

I looked again at MicroSoft Support and found this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310049 which has fixed the problem.
I'm glad you fixed it. (BTW: That fix is the same as you'd have done by double-clicking on the 'reg' file I linked to).
