I'm going to get shouted at for suggesting this. Take battery out and pop it back in.

Alternatively check the fan, it could be overheating. Do you sit with it on your lap (silly thing to do with a lap top, my son's pal got burnt thighs from doing that cos of the battery)
Question Author
never sat with it on my lap --only at a table?
ita a mini laptop, and it was fine untill i accidently shut the lid and realised that i hadnt shut it down properly, so turned on again for few mins, then shut down properly, but it wont shut down. blue icons still on the home page. it wont cancel

hiya. apologies --its an orange light that glowed when i thought it had turned off properly.! I have no idea at this minute, where the battery is on my laptop.
eek younger son had a mini laptop and I.m sorry to say it popped its clogs. We couldn't find the battery on that thing either. I only mentioned about laptops not being on laps re the burnt thighs :D

I'm thinking you could do with Rojash or Chuckfickens on this (They're 2 good techies, there are others before any of them get in a strop)
I usually keep start button pressed in for a few seconds until machine shuts down if this happens to me

many thanks albaqwerty. will wait till tomorrow and post again.

I have just turrned off for 10 mnutes and noticed that the orange light is slowly flickering on and off, which is telling me that somethings still wrong with pc. Oh dear.
will have to let it drain battery all night then, by not shutting it down properly.
hope the blooming thing dont catch alight in the night, haha
thanks again for your replies x
Has it gone into 'sleep' or 'hibernate' mode?
