acer aspire one netbook internet connection problems

i am unable to connect to the internet and when i go into "preferences" everything else works except - network centre, so i can't even get into it to try and sort the problem out. the wireless light is on at the bottom right of the machine, so it has got wireless working, please help :-)

Hi cottonbud, my mother has a similar though not identical problem. Her machine can't find any wireless network at all but is fine connecting via ethernet. The wifi on/off switch on the front brings up the icons for on and off but nothing else happens
According to one forum I found through Google, wireless connection problems are not uncommon for this machine and apparently as yet there's no remedy.
