Recording piano notes with YouTube video - please help!
4 Answers
Dear all
I'm a total tech dunce (unfortunately) but here's what I am trying to do - I am sure it's possible I just cannot work it out.
I am an iMac user, and a pianist. I have a digital piano which I use connected to my iMac to make YouTube videos. What I want to do is find a way to show onscreen, at the same time as my video recording, the notes I am playing through the piano. Is this possible? If so, what software do I need etc? I have Final Cut Pro, Logic Express, Garageband, iMovie, and all usual stuff that comes with a Mac.
Any help on this REALLY really appreciated, because some people ask me for the scores of what I play, and as I play by ear I cannot offer it to them. This seems to me to be a great way around the problem. I know lots of people do this on YouTube, but it seems most of them are using windows software, so I am stuck!
Thanks as always

I'm assuming that the piano is being recorded as audio along with the video.
Is what you now need a video of your hands on the keyboard as well as what you have alrerady recorded ?
If so the easiest way i can think of with the setup you already have is this.
Make your original video and save it, then play it back with whatever mac uses to play videos. (quicktime ?)
you need to make another video of you hands on the keyboard playing along to the first video, audio recording isnt needed for this .
Then in Final Cut import both videos, line both up so they are in sync and use Picture in Picture, which i'm sure final cut will have.

pressed submit by mistake.
There are other ways but I think this might be the easiest and cheapest as by the sound of it you have all the neccesary things needed and some !.
there probably are other ways but I use this Pic in pic method all the time for tuitional guitar vids that i make.
I use Pc with Cubase and Adobe Prem Pro amongst other things but its virtually the same as using what you have and a Mac
