I had to have my PC running Windows XP and IE6 restored to factory settings by DELL and I am unsure which Internet settings need to be ticked.

Allow software to run or install even if the signature is invalid
Warn if changing between secure and not secure mode
Check for server certificate revocation
Disable script debugging(Internet Explorer)
Disable script (Other)

I had an old note which seems that I am missing these also
I can't see enable websites to use search pane
Also I cannot see anything relating to Phishing filter
Turn on auto website checking not there
I went to tools and Internet Options but I am a novice and don't know if I have to look somewhere else.

I would be grateful for help to know which I should tick or if there are any that I should make sure are unticked.

The first thing you need to do is go to Windows Update and install all the updates that have been released since the original installation of Windows on your PC, including updating your browser from IE6 to IE8. Many of the things that you are missing simply didn't exist in the days of IE6.
As above... you may need to run windows update 3 or 4 times to get them all, just keep doing it until there are no more.
I agree. Get the updates. May be easier to install XP servie pack 3 off a cd , and quicker as there may be 200+ updates by now.
