I dropped my lappy the other day. Obviously damaged the pin inside the power supply. Briefly, the lappy has a pin in the socket and the power supply slots onto that. Anyone know how expensive it is to have this fixed? Or should I back the data up and go and buy a new one pronto?!

can you pull it out with tweezers (take the battery out first!)

What's the make and model of laptop?

Acer Aspire 5735Z, Chuck. It's my spare one. My proper one is still out of commission whilst I row with a certain national computer supplier. Grrrr.

Bednobs, the pin is still attached to the inside of the machine (just). It will charge now I have taped the power supply in a particular position - but that is only a temp fix.
Looks like an easy one, it's on a fly lead inside so no soldering... you may even be able to do it yourself...... <goes checks>

Hmmm, it looks like it would involve a total split of the laptop, which in itself isn't that big a job but not something I'd recommend doing to somebody unless they had experience of stripping laptops...

If you still lived down this area I'd do it for about £25 (+part) so I'd expect a decent independent shop would do it for about £50

Service manual is here if you want to have a look
