Cleaning a micro USB port

I (very stupidly) dropped my Samsung Galaxy into a little chemical water. Since then I have been having a few problems which all seem to stem from the USB port (problems include not charging properly or thinking that it is still charging after taking lead out).

I am fairly sure that a good clean of the USB port will alleviate the problem but am unsure as to how to go about it. I have tried blasting it with compressed air and I have also tried a toothbrush. Thought the toothbrush might have worked but still temperamental.

Any thoughts from any Abers?

Get a make up brush and use that instead, there are some that have narrow flat bristles (eye shadow brush) that fit nicely into USB ports of all sizes. Make sure you get a decent one that the bristles don't fall out of though. :)
