If VLC doesn't like the file, try GOM:

Thanks Chris. I'll try that.
Chrissa .. Is it working?
All you needed was a codec tho .. not another ruddy program! : )

I got it to work by clicking on Audio and selecting "Track 2". It was on "Track 1". Don't ask me why it worked, but it worked.

I saw the "codec" thing but how can a "home video" have a codec, whatever one of those are?
OK .. Good ..
Whatever made the DVD it made dual audio tracks .. maybe one you can't hear .. like in PCM.
A codec is like a spanner to fit a certain size of nut .. in a toolkit. It is software and installed on machine or as firmware inside a piece of hardware (like a home DVD player) so it can play different formats.
Adding another program is like adding a complete new toolkit alongside the one you already have .. it just has that extra spanner with it.
So you can add the 'spanner' ... or add another program.
Unfortunately, many PC users add program after program, and Windows will eventuallt get bogged down with them .. either due to conflicts or file sharing/registry issues.
