We are looking to format Carakeels PC, we have the XP CD but it keeps telling us that the current system is newer than the one on the CD and wont let us go any further. How can we get around this?

When you boot succesfully from an XP installation disc, you will end up in Windows Setup .... you let it load all its drivers .. then it will ask you what you want to do.

I have performed this task many times, this time it nearly beat me until....... I had a brainwave, Carakeels PC is using a USB keyboard! maybe the USB drivers arent loading at this stage of the boot process, so I plugged in my keyboard (not USB)and hey presto!! So am I right in that assumption? either way my keyboard is working and the PC is now formatting fine.

Thankyou all for your help.

Deggers, I aint that old yet!!

I am now having to use the poxy laptop Grrr!!!
I hate laptops!!
So do I mate! Hate 'em with a vengeance .. poxy things.

Yes, you are right .. always better having a wired (PS2) keyboard and mouse to load Windows.
You can do it by altering USB settings in BIOS .. but that can cause other issues!
Cheers .. thought you'd sort it.
