Virgin to double broadband speed???????

On January 13th, I received the email below, from Virgin.

/// TO SAY A BIG THANKS FOR BEING WITH US, I, RICHARD BRANSON, WILL BE MORE THAN DOUBLING YOUR BROADBAND SPEED ///

/// But the big news is that over the next 18 months we will be upgrading more than 4 million customers. This includes you. So, soon you'll be enjoying faster broadband speeds. ///

But on January 14th, I received this email, from Virgin.

/// Oops! That last email, 100Mb Broadband Annoucement, was sent in error. ///

/// Please ignore this, and rest assured current Virgin Media Cable Broadband customers will be receiving some good news about your broadband in the next 2 weeks. We apologise for any inconvenience caused ///

Does anyone know what is going off?

Sounds like they got it wrong to me. You're likely to receive the same internet speed as you have been previously.

According to todays Sun it was only meant to go to the customers paying the fastest connection (100mb) but went out to everyone by mistake.

Yes, I got the very same e-mails, really don't understand what they are doing. There was also mention of the cost being reduced, which was more of interest to me.

VM are rolling out the doubling of broadband speeds to all of their broadband customers throughout 2012 on a region-by-region basis. The top tier (preferential) customers were meant to be given the good news first however us plebs got the email in error. I am unlikely to see my upgrade until October.

Yes, I am an oops customer too and Mr Bolt tells me my upgrade will be between October this year and June 2013.
I wonder if I will still be a customer by then

They messed up but if you go on to the Virgin Media website enter your postcode they will tell you when and how they will update your speed. In Kent where I live they will double the speed from 10 to 20 from July 2012

I was also an oops client even though I actually subscribe to the 100mb package with Virgin. Ours is only supposed to be increasing to 120mb.

And it's an oops from me too. Roll out to my postcode in Sheffield is 'from July onwards'. Not too helpful.

July onwards for me, too.
Can't complain though - I started at the slowest of the slow when I first went on broadband- 256mb and have been upgraded in stages up to 10mb at no extra cost.

Not quite true.

It is only CABLE customers, not ADSL customers.

Also 100mbps dont get double, they stay the same but get a price reduction.

So as I am currently on 30mbps mine will go up to 60mbps in about March according to their web site.

100mbps doesn't stay the same VHG, as I said above, it is increasing to 120mbps and we get a reduction in cost :)

Sorry Daffy, seems you are right.

I certainly saw one Virgin announcement where it said it was staying at 100mbps, but the latest announcement I looked at says 120Mbps.

Well the 20mbps customers could have upgraded for free to 30mbps about 6 months ago (as I did) and got a reducation in cost at the time (and a new Superhub as well).

So I am surprised anyone was still on 20mbps.
