Insert symbol- then choose the symbol
eg ¾, ⅛, ²

Thanks for that, but is there not any way (as with earlier versions of Word) of typing the 3 characters 1 / 2 and then automatically having ½ show?
Not that I've found!
Try this using the blue numerical keys on your keyboard. You might need key 'NumLock' on.

Fn+Alt0188 = ¼ Fn+Alt0189 = ½ Fn+Alt0190 = ¾
Yes, I've got Word 2007 and I've just realised that if I type in 1/2 and press enter it changes to ½
Only seems to happen automatically though for ½, ¼, ¾

Blooming 'eck! That easy!! Thanks again.
yes, if you look at the special symbols that can be inserted only those 3 fractions are included so the auto-substitution will only work for those
This has just reminded me that for some reason I still remember my cap size when I was in the Cubs- 6⅞
not you too - did they only sell them in that size?

Personally I was a Life Boy, we hated Cubs!

⅟₉₉

just testing. It seems you can do any fraction where 1 is the numerator
In fact using insert symbols you seem to be able to do any fraction,
eg
³⁄₇₇
