Query on converting AVI into Mpeg format

I am converting AVI movie clips into Mpeg format via AOA Advanced X Media Converter.  I get the choice of converting to Mpeg 1 or 2 and can choose the fps rate. Anybody know which would be the best to use?  Also my AVI movies are originally coded with Mpeg4 at 30fps so I'd like to know how to maintain the video quality.  I have tried various formats but I have not been able to play back once downloaded onto a disc.  I have been getting the message ' Warning: Nothing to output, Bframe decoder lag'  once I have converted the file - it will play on my computer but displays this at the beginning of the movie -  is this to do with how I've converted the file? I hope somebody out there can understand all this, I sure don't LOL!!!! Many thanks!

Well depending on compatability, mpeg2 is the best. Maintaining video quality is very difficult and unless you know about advanced video filters, well thats not strictly speaking true but when converting from one format to another quality is ALWAYS lost. I presume the reason you want this is for video cds if thats just the case then use nero to create a svcd/vcd and everything is taken care of. The Bframe decoder lag is a long term problem with conversion using the divx or xvid codec (i think) and is currently incurable but it should have any effect what so ever.
