Apple dont run Windows so if you are used to a Windows computer you will need to learn how to use an Apple computer (which some people will say is easier to use than a Windows laptop).
People who have Apple computers say they never get attacked by viruses (I have no idea if this is true) but they certainly dont get "hit" by viruses as much as Windows laptops.
Only you can decide if paying the extra for an Apple is worth it.

I have just taken the plunge and got an Apple iMac , yes its different in many ways but to be honest I was just getting so fed up with the virus issues (kids not me !) on microsoft even when running Norton they seemed to get in, that was the the main reason for us going Apple, secondly don't be put off thinking that you will have to learn a new operating system you would have to do that with windows 7 anyway so theres no difference either way you will have to learn , the back up with the Apple also seems very comprehensive and I know its early days yet but I feel a bit more relaxed after just a week ...... expensive yes but no more anti virus and a longer life expectancy, get down to the store and try it out for an hour then make your mind up.....technology , you can't live with it , you can't live without it ..........
I agree with VHG. A MAC is twice or even three times the cost of a regular PC. Like most people I am not a millionaire, so price alone would make me buy a PC.
Also the availablity of Windows programs is a hard to beat advantage.
But if you are thinking of buying a tablet, ie Ipad, then the lack of a proper browser may drive you mad. OK, Windows based systems may not be perfect but they are easy to use. A good anti-virus program will keep any probelsm to a minimum.
Also consider the lack of a CD ROM slot.
