Tomorrow the new EU cookie laws come into practice. We've updated our privacy policy to give more details on the kinds of cookies we use.

If you'd like to see exactly what cookies are used we suggest testing with by changing your cookie settings to "Prompt". This will prompt you every time a cookie wants to be transmitted and will give you a sense of the way cookies work.

We also suggest that you accept cookies sent to you from our site. It helps us know how many users visit and track how many advertisements we deliver. As this is our main revenue stream you can understand how important it is for keeping the site free to use.

How do you set the cookies to prompt please?

I can switch on, safely shutdown and clear browsing history but that's about it :-)

in Chrome it's no longer part of Tools but is Settings further down the main menu

Google Chrome

Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Options".
Click the "Under the Bonnet" tab and locate the "Privacy" section, and choose the "Content settings" button.
Click the "Cookie settings" tab and choose your preferred settings.

Google Chrome allows all cookies by default, but you can restrict the behaviour of first-party and third-party cookies or even block them completely.

Click on the Close button when you've finished.


I don't think you can set it to "prompt" in Chrome.

To test, open internet explorer and follow the below to get to the advanced settings:

Internet Explorer 8.0

Choose Tools and then Internet Options
Click the Privacy tab
Move the slider to choose your preferred settings.

For more specialised cookie settings click on Advanced, check the 'Override cookie handling' button and modify the settings to suit your requirements.

Once here, select prompt :)

As I posted earlier, Options is no longer in the Tools menu - you have to use Settings which is further down the main menu.

And in the latest version of Chrome, you then have to click on Show Advanced Settings... to get to the Privacy section.

Nevertheless it is good to know that the Ed is taking steps to fully comply with the up-dated legislation.
