Also, will `mse` interfere with Malware-anti-malware and slow the computer down any more than now? My son argues that I only need the one, i,e Malware, please advise. TIA

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.By 'mse' I assume you mean Microsoft Security Essentials. MSE is an anti-virus programme and essentially runs all the time. You son is correct in that only one anti-virus programme should be running at a time, due to conflicts and false positives.
Malwarebytes does not run all the time and is used as and when you want, so no conflict there. Once a week is sufficient.
