IE explorer has updated against my will and I now have IE9. The File, Edit etc buttons are below the address bar which is very annoying; I have tried clicking and dragging which doesn't work and followed chucks instructions (here http://www.theanswerb.../Question635160.html) for the last time this happened to me when using IE7 but put ITBar9 instead of 7 but couldn't get it to work, any ideas are much appreciated.

I think you can update the registry to do it, but I would not suggest you do that.

Search on "Move IE9 Menu bar" if you really want to be able to do it.
btw I think you will find Microsoft have now decided to upgrade users IE to the latest level automatically.

There are too many people stuck on old browsers, causing problems for companies to support so many differnet browsers on web sites. By upgrading people to IE9 it makes life easier for web designers.

Anyway, recent browsers are more secure than older browsers.
There's a company in Australia who are charging customers who order their products using IE7 (possibly 6) more because of the cost of maintaining their website. Maybe this will become a more common practice.
Note Firefox has the "File Edit..." menu at the top of the browser if you want to use that instead.

You can have as many browsers on your computer as you wish and use one or more of them as you wish.

Yes, have Firefox but when I first downloaded it I clicked the 'Not now' box for moving my favourites over from IE and now I don't know how to do it quickly! Will have a search and see what it says.
You could move it in the beta, they disabled the ability to do it for the final release.

As far as I'm aware nothing you can do about it now. Though I admit it seems a daft idea, not because the change is a problem as such, but it now takes an extra line up on the screen..

I turn it off and just tap alt to enable it briefly if I need anything on the menus now.
Switch to Firefox - it's free from www.mozilla.org
No doubt that company will lose custom and rightfully so.

i don't see there is much of an issue, if folk don't choose to upgrade and eventually get problems that should be their choice. No one forces websites to cater for everything. Last few stardards should be fine.

Errr ... never tried to roll back the upgrade, maybe the system restore facility ?
To import bookmarks into firefox....

You get used to IE9, sophie, I didn't like it at all at first but it's fine.
Though I wouldn't even bother with firefox anymore, chrome is the browser of choice these days.

OK, looks like a move to Firefox or Chrome it is, grrr, hate change!

Thanks all by the way!
If you enjoy Adverts on AB then IE 9 should meet your requirements; unless there is a way to blank out the items concerned.

I don't doubt that Chuck is right about Chrome being the foremost Browser; but I still prefer Firefox.

Ron.
This is Microsoft's policy to have you using the latest browser for your version of Windows. It is a security issue which they believe that they are looking after your best interests and trying to keep you safe from virus and malware attacks by using the latest one.
