What method of internet connection are you currently using?
What OS are you using on the two PCs?
What is the box that you have plugged both PCs into.
There is a difference between networking two PCs and sharing an internet connection, which is it that you are trying to do, or is it both?
Basically both PCs have to be members of the same workgroup and need to be using a common protocol to communicate with eachother.
If you are using XP and have the installation disk for it, insert it into your no.1 PC (server) and from the menu select "Perform Additional Tasks". From the following screen select "Set up a home or small office network" and follow the instructions. On the final screen, opt to use the installation disk on the next(client) PC and repeat the procedure.
If you are not on XP you will need to enter the properties of your internet connection and tick the box that enables the internet connection to be shared by other PCs.
