Ccleaner & other programs?

I've just used 'Recuva' (a program from Piriform) after having used the CCleaner program earlier to Wipe Free Space off my hard drive(which took HOURS!!!), to try and find a JPG picture I had just sent to my 'recycle bin' and which I then emptied. After 25 second it showed me that I had 331 images (lots of jpg's,etc) including the picture I had just deleted. So, obviously the Wipe Free Space aspect of CCleaner doesn't work! 'Recuva' works like a dream.
Is there an alternative free program to wipe my hard drives free space in less than 4hours?

Did you reboot after wiping free space?

I'm a '***'! Sorry about that hc4361.
The program 'Recuva' retrieved 331 images from my J: drive (my external drive that I use as my 'backup'. I unplugged it and then ran Recuva and it found Ziltch. So I'm a knobhead thats just wasted a lot of time.SORRY

As per my experience C cleaner is one of the strongest programs to wipe free space on your disk but you can also use any one of them.
1) EraserDrop
2) UltraShredder
3) File Shredder
