Anti Vrus Software

Hello All, whatsthe best anti virus software people would reccomend? My Norton on my laptop has expired, and as soon as it has, i keep getting a trojan horse threat alert pop up on my screen. Whats the best course of action, simply renew Norton? But i've heard Norton aren't that great anyway. (Norton software came with the laptop when new by the way a year ago)

(Norton's not that bad now BTW, it used to be rubbish a few years ago but it's improved in the last couple of years, it's still not worth paying for it though when there are good free alternatives)

Norton's supposed to be a lot better these days. People recommed Microsoft Security Essentials (free) a lot but it gave me problems, so I now have Avast, which doesn't and is also free. Plus I scan with Malwarebytes every week or so.

I'm assuming Avast can just be downloaded online??

yes it can be downloaded also comodo security suite is very good and free

Free is good, obviously, and I'd certainly recommend Avast as an antivirus application.

For other malware, AFAIC it's worth the £20 one off fee for the Pro version of Malwarebytes, as it runs continuously and unobtrusively in the background.
