Epson Stylus DX6000 Printer/Scanner

The ABBYY Fine Reader 6.0, which is part of the software on my printer is sending a message which reads: "RPC Scan Manager Terminated Abnormally"
Despite speaking to the Epson Engineers, uninstalling the software and re-installing, having my Computer checked I am still unable to clear this problem.
Varous sites have offered "Free" download of drivers but then demand a registration fee. Even ABBYY cannot advise on this particular model 6.0 other than to offer updated versions at a cost.
Is anyone able to give me some positive advice on this problem which, hopefully will resolve the "Error".

Hi, Seeing that you have no replies so far I thought I'd make a suggestion!
Is it possible that the Abbyy program on the original CD is corrupt??
I suggest that you enter Abbyy Fine Reader into Google and search the results until you come to the AFR 6 FREE edition.
Download that FREE edition, save it to a memory stick (in case you need to use it again) and then try to install the FREE edition on top of the faulty one.
If it doesn't work you will be no worse off than you are now.
