As above, was just wondering how easy is Windows 8 to use? I know my way around W7, but have no experience with any other operating system, so being a self taught pc user will I be able to use W8 without to much of a steep learning curve being required?

If you are happy with Windows 7, why bother about changing to W8. I have a Laptop with W7 and am not rushing to update to W8. At the moment I am posting to you on my Desktop Computer which has Windows Vista Basics.

I go along with the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Windows 8 will take you maybe half an hour to get used to. Once you realise that things happen when you move your mouse to the corners of the screen and that all you need to do is tap Desktop and you're (basically) looking at Windows 7, you'll be fine.
P.S......As you are thinking of buying a new lappy I would suggest you buy one with W7 installed because you will now get them at bargain prices and can always update to W8, if indeed it does become necessary.

Not a great deal of difference between 7 & 8.
We have just this week treated ourselves to a new laptop...a Lenovo 580...which came with windows 8. Previously we'd been using a desktop which used windows xp so quite a jump for us. I reckon if we can get used to it then it must be easy and you won't have much of a problem with it :)
You can easily drop out back into windows 7.

Hi ethandron....Hope you are OK as are Viv and me.

The laptop I have was a recent purchase from Amazon. It's a LenovoG770 with a 17.3inch Screen. No doubt it was a bargain at £343.98p. because it was loaded with Windows7. I am very happy with it and my HP Desktop on which I am posting at the moment is performing ok with Windows Vista.

Incidentally, next to HP, Lenovo is the biggest manufacturer of computers, so I reckon the firm knows how to produce good machines.
