Lost Bar At Top And Bottom Or Screen

I'm not well on computers so please bear with me.Don't know what i've pressed but i've lost the bar at top and bottom of screen if someone could kindly help me.Son usually sorts things for me but he's not here. Thank you for any help.

System restore is overkill imo.
Switching off at the plug can be risky, quite a good way to corrupt a Windows installation.

What happens when you press 'Start/windows' key on your keyboard? Should at least give you an options menu to shut down, so I'd do that first.

What version of Windows 8, 7, Vista, XP ? Also, is this a pc or a laptop?

If the the problem persists after a re-start, come back and tell us what you were doing just prior to it happening.

Hi again everyone, grandson called and sorted problem out for me,haven't a clue what he did but everything is back to normal.I would just like to to thank each and everyone of you for having the time and patience trying to help me. May I wish you all the very best for 2013.

you are supposed to right hand click on the top of the screen and fiddle around with the words with bar on the end!
