I agree with you but not for all routers. I shall explain. I am on virginmedia cable and was having problems with speed and dropping connections to servers. I rebooted the PC and it still happened. I then rang VM customer service and they told me that the router had been on for 93 days without being reset. I pressed the recessed reset button and waited a couple of minutes and it was perfect. I now reset the router once a month and not had the problem again.

Doesn't surprise me. When I have connevction problems I tend to turn of all disconnect everhthing, then after a bit put it all together again. usually improves things.

Upstairs I have a Humax freeeview box wth a simiilar issue. Leave it on for an hour or two and it suddenly can't inform you of programme information in the guide. Just the titles. Leave it on a few days and some channels start to take an age to come in when it does so minus the sound ! Powering off then on solves it for a short while (but it takes an age to gather the guide information again).

An interesting post.

The most important word there is 'cable'. It's the ADSL technology used to get internet services through ordinary phone lines which needs to test the line (and then provide services at an appropriate speed for the capacity of that line). I doubt that a cable service, designed specifically to provide internet access, would need such test.
