Hi, I have a couple of files on my desktop that I cannot delete. They don't seem to have extensions. It says type file (.) in properties. I have tried running cmd prompt to deleted them and it just says Could not find. I've had this problem before, but I can't remember how to do it. _O8B16~7. is one of them. I have tried navigating to the folder and typing 'del _O8B16~7.' Thanks.
I've sometimes (but not always!) managed to delete 'sticky' files by creating a new folder, dragging the files into that folder and then deleting the folder. It might be worth a try.
I doubt that a file extension is relevant but you could try simply giving the files any extension. e.g. right-click on '_O8B16~7.' and rename it to x.doc
Just another thought:
You've not told us what happens when you try to delete the files. If you're getting "accessed denied" try booting into Safe Mode (by pressing F8 during the boot process) and deleting from there.
If it's in a folder, create a new folder at the same location as that folder, copy everything except the 'sticky' files from the 'old' folder to the new one. Delete the old folder. Rename the new folder, giving it the 'old' name.
