Upgrading Browser

I am getting messages to upgrade Firefox 20.1 or something, what are the benefits, does it make any difference.. and if you do, do you have to uninstall the previous version..

There are some relatively minor changes in FF21 http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/21.0/releasenotes/ and if you do the upgrade it will take care of the previous version without you needing to do anything.

If you want to turn off automatic updating then go to the Options in the Tools menu, select the Advanced tab and then the Update section of that. There you have the option to have updates done automatically, or have it still check but ask whether you want it done, or leave it to you to do manually. The program version can be manually checked for updates by going to the Help menu and selecting the About Firefox option (in the pop-up window that results there is a Check For Updates button).

thank you will do. By the way still can't get my full bank details on line using Firefox, open out the banks page, then go to open the detailed statements on what money is in or out and it hangs the screen, message says Firefox not responding. It worked once but not now, someone suggested it's a plug in or add on, but really no idea.

I use Lloyds and don't have a problem.

If you want to make sure that you have the latest plug-in versions then go to the Add-ons page (via the Tools menu); in that is a Plugins section (click on it from the section names on the lhs) and at the top of the list is a Check To See If You're Plugins Are Up To Date link which will take you to a page where you can check them all.

I should add that you only need to bother with those that it flags up as needing to be updated. Those that have the Research action will only take you to a search for the plugin and it's left to you to figure out for yourself.

its not the bank but something preventing it from opening fully in Firefox, it worked before ok but not now. It works fine if i switch back to IE8.

Metastream has been disabled when i look at the add ons, says not compatible with Firefox..

I use this add-on https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/checkcompatibility/ that turns off compatibility checking so all add-ons will work with whatever version of FF you are using.

You have to be aware that an add-on that isn't fully up-to-date might cause some problems when run but I haven't had any noticeable problems in the long time that I have had checking turned off using that add-on.

Up-date your Firefox and see if it puts matters right.

Open FF Help then click 'About Firefox' and you should be able to-up-date to Firefox 21 from there.
