Removing Sitescout.com

I seem to have developed an irritating fault on my computer, i am using firefox 24.0 as my browser and it secretly loads a programme called adtcs.sitescout.com
which doesn't show until I close my browser down.

I have tried going into Add/Remove Programmes, but can find nothing in there to remove, and I have also tried this instruction,

"Click the small search magnify glass near the search box, and click "manage Search Engines", Remove the search engine ism.sitescout.com from the list of search providers".

Right clicking on the small magnify glass only brings up my toolbars, and left clicking on it only shows up the various search engines and the one I wish to get rid of is not listed.

How can one get rid of this annoying advertising site please?

Sounds like malware to me. Have you tried malwarebytes ?

PS that last link was from a google search, have no idea if legit.

Thank you for your replies OG, I carried out a Malwarebytes full scan the other day, and although it detected numerous threats which I removed, the problem still exists.

Don't know about that other site, I am always a little suspicious of sites I do not know.
