I didn't need a laptop anymore, and I didn't fancy a desktop which took up a load of room so I got a Samsung all-in-one. All the gubbins is in the back of the 23" flat screen. It's totally Wi-Fi so it only has a power cable to plug in, and I have a wireless keyboard and mouse.
Ask the salespeople at the shop which would be the best one for you. You need a laptop if you are taking it places, and buy a carry case for it. When I bought mine the salesman set it up for me and explained about wi-fi etc. There are probably lighter than mine to carry about nowadays, mine is about 4 years old.
Pixie. My mobile is nearly as old as me. I just want to connect to the internet, read my emails etc. My computer is getting on in years and is slowing down. I thought if I had a lappy I could take it to the hospital and show Mic web sites he was interested in. Mainly AB where I know he has many friends.
OK, so you need something portable.
Next, do you need it for anything more than web browsing and email, that sort of thing? I mean, do you need to use it for work, or do you have specialist requirements like maybe genealogy, DTP or stuff like that? You will know that people on here do the family tree stuff, and others do programming and graphics work. Do you need anything like that?

I'm sure all hospitals are different but when my husband was in hospital i took my ipad and used it on their free wifi. However, i am a BT customer and it may have been a BT hotspot that I connected to.
Unless you're going for a smart phone you will need a wifi connection. Before you buy anything, ask at the hospital about the availability of wifi and the cost of using it. If its free go for a tablet or ipad. If its not free then go for a smart phone which you can use anywhere and everywhere jeza.
Love to Mic as always.
