For first time??
Ideally im trying to juice up the old one to get the songs from my phone to laptop THEN ipad..... I have old ones i downloaded years ago on limewire that are in my itunes library!!!!
OR could i sync my phone to dads laptop and then sync ipad

If you can get the laptop going, you can backup your itunes library. Apple provide info on how to do that on their site.
What you could also do is backup your non itunes bought music to cd/dvd
I think you can have multiple itunes accounts on one computer. I think the music would go into the same library on the computer - the only thing to watch is that your itunes purchases wont work on someone elses ipad etc. and vice versa unless both devices are authorised under the same itunes account.
