Copy And Paste Problem

I need to copy a number of pages from Word (03 I think) into a new document. For some reason I can't get rid of the item that's currently on my clipboard, and I've lost count of the number of times I've pasted a sentence about Thomas Beauchamp (don't ask) on to the same page. Only 'paste' is enabled in my Edit box. I know I'm missing something really simple, but it's making me very cross. Could someone help. please? I'm on Windows 7.

Are you sure you have highlighted the picture and the text right to the end of the document? (it's normal for the picture to go too the negative view when highlighting).

Have you tried highlighting the text, right-clicking to bring up the context menu and then selecting copy?
Let's start with the obvious:
'Copy' won't be available unless you've actually selected some text in the first place (through dragging your cursor over it, triple-clicking on it, going to Edit>Select All or pressing Ctrl-A). Which of those have you tried to do and has it resulted in the relevant text being highlighted?

Thank you, Bibblebub and Buenchico. There's good news and bad news; first, as you had guessed, I had forgotten that I needed to highlight first....however, the page concerned is a photo with some text underneath it. When I try to highlight the picture it just turns into a sort of negative version of itself. I have managed to copy it correctly, but it hasn't taken the whole page including text, just the picture. Copying just the text is fine.

I did this last year with similar pages with no problem, and I can't think what is different now.
Are you also using the context menu for pasting? That includes options for pasting in more than way, including what is in the clipboard, i.e. text and pictures, but also text only.

I've tried the edit menu top left, and also right-clicking on picture, - negative image as before - and to right of pic, and highlighting text and then right-click - still only Paste enabled. I did manage to copy the image once, but don't know what I did that was different then - haven't managed to replicate it since.
I have Word 2010 and I don't think that I ever use the edit menu for copy and paste so don't know if it's temperamental - context menu or simply Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V work fine for me very time.

Is it not possible to copy one whole document into another, just by highlighting the title rather than the whole of the picture/text? Again, I've tried but can't seem to do it.
Why don't you save the document under another name and delete what you don't want!

Can you also not highlight just the picture, paste that in and then go back and highlight just the text and paste that in underneath?

Oh THANK YOU, Prudie! If I'd known it was normal for it to go negative when highlighted I could have sorted it from the word go - it was actually working all the time!
Oh good, have you done it now?
