Computer Changeover Advice Please

With the advent of XP winding up, I have just had Windows 7 put in my pc. I was told to go into 'windows old' and copy and paste programs etc into local disk C, which I have done. But although the files are there, I cannot get anything to open. I picked my pc up late on Saturday, and can't get hold of the technicians until Tuesday. There must be something I haven't done. Would apprecate some guidance.

You should have been able to install Win7 as an upgrade.

If its been done as a fresh install you will have to reinstall your programmes - you can't copy and paste them.

Absolutely. Whoever told you to cut and paste your programs needs shooting :-)

you should be able to copy and paste photos and docs but not programmes

I have LibraOffice which I use for my work, and, as I could not get my files to open, tried to download LibraOffice, but it would not. said I had to check with vender. If I insert the Windows disc and reload, will it affect anything that I have doer so far?

down load "open office" its free and should open your files

You cant do an upgrade from XP to W7, it is a clean install (custom install).

Also note XP is not "winding up".

It will go on working for years if you want to carry on using it.

All that has happened in that Microsoft say they will no longer be writing new fixes or updates for it.
