audio cd burn probs

over a period of time i successfully burned 5 cd-r using nero as audio cds , now when i tried a new compliation the burn process fails -could not read file- yet i checked the music download files in question and they play perfectly
i tried lowering the burn speed- didnt work, i then decided to try on a cd- rw (to save disc wastage) again failed and to my surprise has wasted the cd-rw aswell( which had not even been used before)
i am using xp(sp2 not installed)

the only problem i have had similar to this is when my cd burner stopped recognising my current brand of cd-r for some reason.i switched brand and all was ok again.

What type of files are you using to make the audio CD? it could be that they aren't compatible for burning an audio Cd, they could be Data files for example - to make an audio CD using Nero, they should generally be MP3 or Wav files (Not sure if WMA files work, have never tried) but this could pehaps be the reason, otherwise as Mattk mentions, certain discs have a higher failure rate than others, once you find a brand with little or no wastage its worth sticking to it - but from what you say, youve tried a few different ones.

I have had the same problem with Nero.  I also cannot burn CD's using I-Tunes anymore.  They both just stopped working after a few burns. I am currently burning with Realplayer.  I too would be interested to learn what the problem is.

A non updated Nero has burning issues With Windows XP Pro especially SP2,

Make sure that there is no screen saver running

Check that the DVD/CD drive is connected with an 80pin UDMA cable and not a 40pin as burning will fail intermittently.

Go to the Nero website for updates and they also explain other avenues you can take to rectify this situation.

Watch the processes on your PC, If CPU usage goes up to 100% for a significant time, find the process thats using it and either resolve the mis-configuration or remove the program that drives the process.

Other than this look at the Micrsoft knowledgebase as regards nero compatibility issues with XP

files are exactly the same as is the procedures- and i do not have SP2 installed or screensavers running , i intend to "test it" by trying to burn other files such as jpegs or downloaded webpages to see what happens( jan moser you could try this aswell)
